Preparing Your Husband for a Family Session

For some of us, preparing our husbands for the family photo session is as exhausting as preparing the kids. If you're lucky enough to have a partner that is all in on the photoshoot, kudos to you! For the rest of us, read on!

If you’re dealing with someone who’s reluctant, here are a few things to ease their apprehension:

  • Set expectations. For a first-time family session, it's always a good idea to share details about the two-hour session with your husband, and the kids, too.

  • Get on the same page. Make sure you and your husband are on the same page with how best to negotiate (or bribe) with the kids to participate. Do this well in advance of the photo session.

  • Be honest about how the kids may behave. It's best not to sugarcoat the likelihood of how hyper or shy the kids may react onsite. Instead, coach your husband on how to keep the peace and maintain composure to avoid feeling overwhelmed or worried.

  • Ask for help. Let him know how he can pinch-hit with getting himself and the kids ready on the day of the photoshoot. With a little advance direction, the day will be less stressful and might save you an argument (or two).

The most important gesture you can make to ease the anxiety that sometimes comes with a family photoshoot is to remind your partner how much you love and appreciate him. You might also want to remind yourself how much he loves you, too, as it's proven to be one of the many reasons why he’s cooperating in the first place.

Get ready to smile!
