Last year the photography world lost Peter Lindbergh, one of its greatest influencers. He inspired many a photographer to emulate his style into their work, including Keenography's principal Sandra Madhere.
"As a young girl in the 90s, I loved flipping through fashion magazines admiring the photographer's artistic eye. Peter Lindbergh was one of my favorites. Through his lens, I got to know the original supermodels Linda, Naomi, Cindy, Claudia, Tatiana, Christy, Kate, and Helena.
Back then, New York City still had a level of grit to it, details Lindbergh captured in his iconic black and whites. His street photographs helped me to SEE my city more clearly, to discover its hidden secrets in plain sight. With every fashion spread, I fell more in love with its concrete and asphalt and more aware of its architecture, the smoke, and yes, even the scaffolding as a frame for his work.
The most recognizable spread, The Wild Ones, is a favorite. In this photo, Lindbergh instinctively knew how to capture a woman's raw beauty, manipulating the gradients of black and white to reveal their energy in a stunning, magnetic way. The picture shows an edgier urban Brooklyn scene, one that is quickly vanishing into the shadows."
